忘れてはいけないこと Don’t Forget
あなたが食べて満ち足りたとき、主が賜わった良い地について、あなたの神、主をほめたたえなければならない。気をつけなさい。私が、きょう、あなたに命じる主の命令と、主の定めと、主のおきてとを守らず、あなたの神、主を忘れることがないように。あなたが食べて満ち足り、りっぱな家を建てて住み、あなたの牛や羊の群れがふえ、金銀が増し、あなたの所有物がみな増し加わり、あなたの心が高ぶり、あなたの神、主を忘れる、そういうことがないように。――主は、あなたをエジプトの地、奴隷の家から連れ出した。
ここで神様はイスラエルの民に警告を与えていますが、それは現代の私たちにも当てはまるものです。神様はイスラエルの民が約束の地に入る前に、彼らに指示を与えています。彼らはまだそこに到着していませんが、神様は彼らがこれから繁栄していくことをご存知です。イスラエルの民は砂漠を40年間旅してきましたが、もうすぐその生活が楽になる日が来ようとしているのです。
(申命記8:10-14)
しかし神様は、生活が楽になると私たちが怠慢で傲慢になってしまうこともご存知です。神様はご自身の命令を忘れないようにと、私たちに警告を出します。私たちが傲慢になって自分の力で成功したと思うことがないように警告しています。まず神様はイスラエルの民がどこから来たのかを思い出させています。すなわち、彼らがかつて奴隷だったということを思い出させるのです。
成功と安楽な生活を経験すると、私たちの心はどこに向かうでしょうか？より多くの快適さと富を得ることに焦点を合わせるでしょうか？ 神様のことを忘れてしまうでしょうか？ 私たちもかつては奴隷だったことを忘れてはいけません。私たちは出口なしの罪の生活に支配されていました。神様がイエス・キリストを通して私たちを救ってくださるまで、私たちは希望のない状態に置かれていました。いま私たちが生きているのは神様のおかげなのです。だから、私たちがどこから来たのかを決して忘れてはいけません。神様に従い、神様を褒めたためることを決して忘れてはいけないのです。
When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you. Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day. Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down, and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, then your heart will become proud and you will forget the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
(Deut 8:10-14)
God gives a warning to his people Israel that extends to us today as well. He is instructing them before they go into the promised land he is going to give them. They haven’t gotten there yet, but God knows the future will be prosperous for them. They have been traveling for 40 years in the desert, but life is about to get good.
But God knows that when life gets good, we get lazy and proud. He warns us not to forget his commands. He warns us not to get proud and think we achieved success all by ourselves. Most of all, he reminds his people where they came from: slavery.
When we experience success and comfort, where does our heart turn? Does it focus on getting more comfort and wealth? Do we forget God? Always remember that we used to be slaves. We used to be controlled by a dead-end life of sin. We used to be in a hopeless situation before God rescued us through Jesus Christ. Now that we live with his favor, let us never forget where we came from. Let us never forget to follow Him and honor Him
