心を入れ換える Heart Transplant
わたしは彼らに一つの心を与える。すなわち、わたしはあなたがたのうちに新しい霊を与える。わたしは彼らのからだから石の心を取り除き、彼らに肉の心を与える。それは、彼らがわたしのおきてに従って歩み、わたしの定めを守り行なうためである。こうして、彼らはわたしの民となり、わたしは彼らの神となる。(エゼキエル11:19-20)
今週の日曜日にマーク先生が、イエス様とニコデモの会話について話しました。イエス様は、人が神の国に入るためには新しく生まれる必要がある（ヨハネ3:3）と言われました。このような考え方はニコデモにとっても初めて聞くものでしたが、私たちにとっても少し奇妙に聞こえます。しかし旧約聖書の中にも、変化を起こしたいなら何か革新的なことをする必要がある、と神様が示している箇所があります。上に引用したのは預言者エゼキエルに語られた言葉ですが、そこで神様はイスラエルの民が心を入れ換えることを求めておられます。
しかし神様は、それが革新的な変化によってしか起こらないということもご存じです。神様は彼らの石の心を取り除き、肉の心を与える必要があります。また神様は彼らの中に新しい霊を与えるとも言われます。これは新しく生まれ変わるというのとは少し違ったイメージですが、神様が大胆なリセットのことを語っているのは明らかです。私たちの自然の状態は、罪によって壊されたもの、神様から遠く離れたものになっています。私たちは自分の力で神様を喜ばせることはできないし、いつも神様に従うということもできません。そのためにはリセットされる必要があるのです。作り変えられる必要があるのです。つまり生まれ変わることが必要なのです。
これは神様の働きによってしかあり得ません。イエス様を信じる信仰によってのみ、私たちは新しい人となって迎えられるのです。これは、私たちがいきなり完璧な人間になるということではありません。でも私たちは神様に従いたい、神様を喜ばせたい、と思う人になっていくことができるのです。そうして私たちもまた神の民となり、神の家族の中に息子や娘として迎えられるのです。
救いの賜物は心臓移植を待つ人によく似ています。患者の最初の心臓には欠陥があり壊されています。このままだと患者は死んでしまいます。私たちは新しい心臓を受け取る資格のない者ですが、健康な心臓をもった人が死ぬことによって、それを賜物として受け取るのです。イエス様は十字架で私たちのために死なれたことによって、新しい健康な肉の心を私たちに与えて下さいます。イエス様、この新しい命を与えて下さったことを、あなただけが与えることのできる新しい心を下さったことを感謝いたします。
I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. Then they will follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. They will be my people, and I will be their God. (Ezekiel 11:19-20)
This past Sunday Pastor Mark talked about a conversation Jesus had with Nicodemus. Jesus said that people need to be born again (John 3:3) to enter the kingdom of God. This idea was new to Nicodemus and might sound strange to us as well. But even in the Old Testament, God hinted that something radical was needed to make a change. In the above passage from the prophet Ezekiel, God wants the people of Israel to have a change of heart.
God knows, however, that this will only happen with a radical change. He needs to take out their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. He also says he will put a new spirit in them. While the imagery is not completely the same as being reborn, it is clear that God is talking about a major reset. Our natural state is one where we are corrupted by sin and separation from God. We don’t have the ability to please him or to consistently obey him. We need to be reset. We need to be remade. We need to be reborn.
Only through God’s work can this happen. Only through faith in Jesus are we welcome to becoming a new person. We are not suddenly perfect, but we can be someone who want to obey and please God. We then also become God’s people, adopted sons and daughters of his family.
The gift of salvation is very similar to a person awaiting a heart transplant. The patient’s original heart is flawed and corrupted. It will only bring death. We don’t deserve a new heart, but we are gifted one when someone with a good heart dies. Jesus gives us his new healthy heart of flesh by dying for us on the cross. Thank you Jesus for a new life, and a new heart only you could provide!
